I noticed this the other day at Staples. When buying envelopes in bulk, you would expect to spend less money than buying a small box. Right?

I used to work for a (now collapsed) stationery chain, where self seal envelopes were cheaper than gummed. I never worked that out (or why people still bought gummed, for that matter), either.

Sadly, it’s not just envelopes they try to pull that with. I see this all the time in stores, including the grocery store. They depend on those people who need more of an item and don’t think to calculate prices and/or those who assume that bigger means bulk which means cheaper. Just another sneaky retail trick. :P
